Compassionate Christian Care for Those We Serve

Campus Living

Campus Living

The Good Neighbor Society, a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC), encompasses independent living, assisted living, post hospital rehab, memory care, long term care and hospice care all on one campus to facilitate your retirement.

When you become part of the GNS family we do our best to assist you in living your best retirement. This means once you live on our campus in any of our levels of care, you no longer have to stay on a waiting list to receive the level of care you need.*

Good Neighbor Home

In 1961, before the doors of the Good Neighbor Society were opened, 7 Lutheran churches decided to meet the needs of the community and began the design phase for what would become the Good Neighbor Home. Each of these churches appointed or elected members to the Board of Directors to act as an advisory board to the Good Neighbor Society's leadership team.

Plans were approved and construction began in May 1962. The Good Neighbor Society opened to the first residents on July 1, 1963 with a capacity of 55 beds, forming the current South End of the Good Neighbor Home.

In June 1972, ground was broken for a 54 bed addition and a new dining room which opened in October of 1973, forming what is currently known as the North End of the Good Neighbor Home.

Construction for another addition began in August of 1990. This addition created a large recreation room and Garden View. Garden View and our courtyard opened in July of 1991. The additions to this point gave the Good Neighbor Home the ability to care for 110 residents.

The Meadows

In the 1990's, the Board of Directors recognized and met the needs of those in the Delaware County Community who would benefit from continuing to live independently while having assistance as needed. Thus, The Meadows concept was born.

In 1999, after a successful fundraising campaign, phase I of construction for The Meadows began and 24 apartments were opened to serve the Delaware County Community in March 2000.

With the addition of The Meadows, the Good Neighbor Home became the Good Neighbor Society.

Due to a steadily increasing demand for assisted living services, phase II of construction on The Meadows began. When the construction concluded in 2001, 8 additional apartments and a solarium were added.

The canopy entrance to the Meadows was added in 2008, with 6 more apartments – it opened in July of 2009.

Marietta's Place

During 2010, the Good Neighbor Society answered another calling, which was to serve those with early to moderate stages of dementia. Marietta's Place, which opened in January of 2011, has served as a safe haven for many Delaware County families as their loved one faces a dementia diagnosis.

Into The Future

Currently the Good Neighbor Society is comprised of 11 local churches of differing denominations and one associate member. They continue with the tradition of appointing or electing members of their respective congregations to the Board of Directors. The Board of Directors still acts as an advisory board to the Good Neighbor Society's leadership team.

We continually look for ways to enhance the lives of those we serve and to find areas of need in our community. When an area of need is identified we assist in creating a common goal.
