Good Neighbor Society, a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC), encompasses independent living, assisted living, post hospital rehab, memory care, long term care and hospice care all on one campus.
When you become part of the GNS family we do our best to assist you in living your best retirement. More simply, once you live on our campus at level of care, you no longer have to wait on a community waiting list to receive the level of care you need.*
In 1961, before the doors of Good Neighbor Society opened, 7 Lutheran churches began an initiative to meet the needs of the community and began the design phase for what would become Good Neighbor Home. Each of these churches appointed or elected members to the Board of Directors to act as an advisory board to Good Neighbor Home leadership team.
Construction began in May 1962. Good Neighbor Home became home to the first residents on July 1, 1963 with a ability to aide 55 people, forming the current South End of Good Neighbor Home.
October of 1973, construction drew to an end in the main dining room, and 54 new rooms were opened forming what is currently known as the North End of Good Neighbor Home.
The final construction on Good Neighbor Home was open to residents in July of 1991. This addition created a large recreation room, 16 resident rooms and our courtyard full of delicate flowers. To this point, Good Neighbor Home had the ability to serve 110 people..
In the 1990's, the Board of Directors recognized and again met the needs of those in the Delaware County Community who would benefit from continuing to live independently while having assistance as needed. Thus, The Meadows concept was born.
In 1999, after a successful fundraising campaign, construction for The Meadows began and 24 apartments were opened to tenants in March 2000.
Due to a steadily increasing demand for assisted living services, 8 additional apartments and a solarium were added in 2001.
The canopy entrance to the Meadows was added in 2008, with 6 more apartments – it opened in July of 2009. With the addition of The Meadows, Good Neighbor Home became Good Neighbor Society.
During 2010, Good Neighbor Society answered another calling, this time to serve those with early to moderate stages of dementia. Marietta's Place, which opened in January of 2011, has served as a safe haven for many Delaware County families as their loved one faces a dementia diagnosis.
Currently Good Neighbor Society is comprised of 11 local churches of differing denominations and one associate member. They continue with the tradition of appointing or electing members of their respective congregations to the Board of Directors. The Board of Directors still acts as an advisory board to Good Neighbor Society's leadership team.
Continually looking for ways to enhance the lives of those we serve through compassionate christian care and to find areas of need in our community. When an area of need is identified we assist in creating a common goal.
